Goodreads Summary:
Evie finally has the
normal life she’s always longed for. But she’s shocked to discover that
being ordinary can be . . . kind of boring. Just when Evie starts to
long for her days at the International Paranormal Containment Agency,
she’s given a chance to work for them again. Desperate for a break from
all the normalcy, she agrees.
But as one disastrous mission leads
to another, Evie starts to wonder if she made the right choice. And
when Evie’s faerie ex-boyfriend Reth appears with devastating
revelations about her past, she discovers that there’s a battle brewing
between the faerie courts that could throw the whole supernatural world
into chaos. The prize in question? Evie herself.
So much for normal.
I just love Kiersten White’s writing – it’s so fun and light-hearted and entertaining and did I mention fun! Her writing is very approachable and not intimidating at all. For me, it falls into an easy read category the way that it’s written, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have a depth of content that is still enjoyable to read as you follow along with Evie’s journey. If you’ve read Kiersten’s blog at all (and you should be!) you’ve come to know her personality a little – and that totally comes through in her writing as well.
Evie is such a great character – she struggles with wanting to be normal, and finding a place to call home, and figuring out how to be the person she wants to be while trying to keep everyone happy. In book two, she’s trying to balance her regular life and her IPCA live, her love for Lend and her relationships with other boys, her friendships with paranormals and normals, her anger at the faeries and her understanding of them, her feelings of wanting to be someone special and wanting to be normal, her realization of where she came from and what that makes her. I do love Evie’s fashion sense and love of pink, but I don’t envy her difficulties in trying to figure out how to find balance in her life and be happy – while always feeling like she has to keep secrets, oh, and constantly being afraid that paranormals are conspiring against her. She has a strong sense of right and wrong that comes through again in this book, and it’s a piece of what makes her so relateable and what makes me want to root for her. Oh, and there’s some romance – and it feels very real as there are struggles with her relationship with Lend and trying to find the balance that will make it work.
There is a good story arc in this book with new characters and old favorites. And there are definite hints to something bigger going on that do not get resolved at the end of this book, so I think I have an idea of what the third book is going to address. If you liked PARANORMALCY, you definitely won’t be disappointed in this second book of Evie’s adventures as she tries to find her version of “normal” and figure out how to find the balance between her paranormal and normal sides of life. I’ll definitely be looking forward to book 3, ENDLESSLY, in 2012!
