In the United States, Ramadan starts the evening of April 1 & ends with Eid al-Fitr the evening of May 1 in 2022.
Written by Aya Khalil (author of The Arabic Quilt – a fantastic picture book) and illustrated by Huda Fahmy (author/illustrator of Huda F Are You? – a fabulous middle grade graphic novel memoir), this infographic guide intends to help educators learn more about how to create inclusive and safe spaces for their Muslim students during the month of Ramadan. Along with knowing ways to be more inclusive of Muslim students with your actions/statements during this time, picture books provide a wonderful way to let those students feel included in the classroom community by having their practices centered during the holiest Islamic month. Picture books can also help non-Muslim students learn about the holidays and better understand what they might see some of their classmates doing during that month.
To help with this, I’m sharing two recommendation lists: One specifically about Ramadan & Eid + Another one highlighting Muslim families and culture = 26 picture books to share
